So here is the premise. I have 'invested' £20 into a Betfair account to try out the Abacus Tennis Matched Betting Calculator. By nature I am opposed to gambling, but if you can skew the odds in your favour...
The Abacus calculator works on the premise that you back the non-favourite at better than offered odds before play commences. if your bet is matched it then suggests odds at which to back the favourite in order to attain a win-win situation (assuming that at some point during the game the non-favourite has a temporary advantage which swings the odds to your favour). I will trial with £2.00 stakes.
It hadn't occurred to me to blog this before I started so i wasn't paying to much attention to the details of the bets. I am not a tennis fan, so I will be guided purely by the odds, not any perception of 'form'.
Today there were half a dozen games to be played at the US Open. After running them through the calculator, only two met the criteria. I placed £2,00 at 4.2 as recommended on non-favourites Vives /Sanchez in the women's doubles. After a couple of hours the bet was matched. I immediately placed the matched bet of £5.51 at 1.53 on the opponents. This bet went south from the off as the non-favourites never gained the upper hand. Result : £2.00 loss. £18.00 left in the kitty.
My other bet was unmatched at 30 minutes before start of play. i cancelled it and went to the pub!
